Seattle Birth Photographer & Doula Support

DOCUMENTARY BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY, CINEMATIC VIDEO, AND DOULA SUPPORT ACROSS SEATTLE AND THE EASTSIDE.
When a new life is born, the world becomes very quiet. There is a moment when everything changes - when fear gives way to awe, and love takes its first breath. You want to remember it. Not as a story, but as it truly was. Because this moment exists only once.
Birth photography with First Breath is available for hospital births, birth centers and home births throughout Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah and surrounding areas. As a certified doula and birth photographer with experience at more than 400 births, Yana documents the story quietly and respectfully while understanding the rhythm and privacy of the birth space.
Just one minute... but in that minute is a whole life...
Whatever your birth becomes, I’m there - quietly and respectfully.
Not a performance. A memory that stays

NO FIXED DATE REQUIRED. I'M ON CALL AND ARRIVE WHEN LABOR BEGINS. A LIMITED NUMBER OF BIRTHS IS ACCEPTED EACH MONTH TO ENSURE FULL PRESENCE AND AVAILABILITY
Have questions about birth photography or doula support? Let’s talk. I offer a complimentary Zoom consultation where we can go over your birth plans, hospital, due date, and anything you’re unsure about.
Will there be a stranger at the birth?
No. My role is to be a quiet, respectful presence in your birth space. As both a certified doula and experienced birth photographer, I understand when to step closer, when to step back and when the camera should disappear completely.
I’m not there as an observer looking in from the outside. After hundreds of births, the birth space feels deeply familiar to me. I understand its rhythm, its intensity, and when my presence should almost disappear.

How is birth documented?
When labor begins, just let me know. I stay on call around your due date and come when the timing feels right. I photograph births across Seattle and the Eastside - in hospitals, birth centers, and at home.
I know when to come closer and when to step back. I don’t direct the moment or ask you to perform for the camera. I’m there to document what is already happening - the strength, the vulnerability, the first breath, and all the small moments in between.
For me, birth photography is not just about taking pictures. It’s about preserving one of the most intimate days of your life exactly as it felt.

BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
When should I book a birth photographer in Seattle?
The earlier, the better. I usually recommend booking sometime during the second trimester, but if your due date is already close, just message me and I’ll check my availability. I book around your due date, not for one specific day.
What happens if my baby comes before or after my due date?
That’s completely normal - babies rarely care about our plans :) Your booking is connected to your due date, so if your baby decides to come earlier or later, just let me know when things start
Do Seattle hospitals allow birth photography?
Many hospitals in the Seattle area do, but every hospital and medical situation can be a little different. I always follow the rules of the hospital and your care team, and I try to be as quiet and unobtrusive as possible.
Can you be both my birth photographer and doula?
Yes. I’m a certified doula as well as a birth photographer, so I understand the birth space not only through the camera. Depending on the package you choose, I can support you during labor and document your birth at the same time.
